Devon Blake is a certified thief and presumably a murderer, furthermore suspected of spying for the Rebels during the Civil War of the US. A certain captain, Cole McRae, is designated to escort the feisty woman to the gallows and his patience is running thin. Except that she is beautiful, witty, tender, and maybe, just maybe, being wrongfully condemned. At first he just wants her to confess to the crimes she is charged with and to lead him to the perpretator of many fatal attacks to the Unionists. But now he is not so sure Blake is a traitor. Is Cole becoming blind by the strong attraction involving the couple?
