Impossível não usar o clichê "a arte imita a vida" ao se referir ao livro de Robert M. Edsel. A narrativa é sobre fatos reais, porém, tão emocionantes e repletos de aventura que o leitor pode se questionar se, na verdade, não está vendo um filme de ação. A história trata de um grupo de homens destacados pelos Estados Unidos e a Inglaterra durante a II Grande Guerra para salvar/recapturar obras-primas em perigo, seja por roubo ou depredação. A engenhosidade dos "Monuments' Men" para driblar a insuficiência de recursos é impressionante e a descrição da descida dos aliados na Normandia é capaz de deixar qualquer um sem fôlego! Leitura imperdível.

Robert M. Edsel writes about real facts, however the pace of the story is so exciting and full of adventures that the reader may feel that, instead, he is watching a thriller. A group of men is selected by the US and Britain to salvage/recapture works of art that are endangered either by pillage or depredation during the II World War. Their ingenuity to overcome the almost non-existent resources is impressive and the description of the allies arriving in Normandie is breathtaking! A must-read book.
